Through July 13th  The Joyce Gordon Gallery at 406 14th St in Oakland, is exhibiting “SLIDE” an art show that partners visual and literary arts in order to deepen the act of storytelling.

Seven short stories from the Pochino Press publication by the same name have been translated into the mediums of painting, mixed media, sculpture, video, and photography. The opening night, held on June 7th coinciding with Art Murmur / First Fridays, included a great crowd, DJ Odiaka and exciting conversations about art and literature.

Two weeks later the seven artists held an "artist talk" to speak about their work inspired by Monica Zarazua's book "Slide". Their mediums ranged from wire work to 18th-century style photo developing. Each discussed the physical process as well as the inspiration for their work. The show was curated by Eric Murphy and featured artists Christine Balza, Xiomara Castro, Samantha Chundur, Nicole Dixon, Jon Fischer, Trevor Parham, Tomye, and Jamie Treacy.

This solid collaboration is yielding great interest for both the artists and Pochino Press. The exhibition was extended beyond June and closes July 13th.  Pochino Press will be hosting a gathering to celebrate the success of Slide!  Stay tuned for the date and location.
